Board members needed for QFHSA
The Québec Federation of Home and School Associations (QFHSA) is seeking volunteers to serve on its’ Board of Directors. Meetings are once month usually on Saturdays. Mileage is reimbursed.
Members are also needed on the Rights/Education/Public Affairs Committee as well as the Parenting/Literacy Committee.
If you are interested in the welfare of children, parental concerns, and the education system this volunteer position is for you.

Looking for Volunteer ESL Teachers
Do you have ESL teaching experience? Would you like to help adult immigrants learn English?
Tyndale St.George's is a non-profit community center located downtown near the intersection of Guy and St. Antoine. Our English Language Department is staffed by volunteer teachers. We teach a diverse population of immigrants and refugees who come from all around the world. Our students are wonderful! They are highly-motivated adults who need to improve their English skills in order to be able to find work (or a better job) here in Montreal.
Our classes are offered Monday-Thursday 9:30 - 11:45 and 6:00 - 8:15. We ask for a commitment of one morning or one evening a week for 6 weeks. Our upcoming sessions are January 18 - February 25 and March 1 - April 8, 2010.
We offer a welcoming environment with free coffee, tea and snacks to our students and volunteer teachers. If you can devote 2 hours a week to teaching an ESL class, we'd love to hear from you!

L’emploi rémunéré dans le secteur communautaire
Une enquête nationale sur l’emploi rémunéré en fin de carrière ou après la
retraite, dans le secteur communautaire. Le Conseil des ressources humaines pour le
secteur bénévole et communautaire effectue un sondage confidentiel qui pourrait intéresser les
individus âgés de 45 ans et plus qui ont l'intention de prendre leur retraite, ou de faire d’autres
changements dans leur travail, ou qui sont déjà à la retraite. Le Conseil RH travaille avec les
éducateurs, les travailleurs et le gouvernement pour identifier et traiter les questions relatives aux
RH. Il est financé par le gouvernement du Canada, dans le cadre du Programme des conseils

Cette enquête devrait vous prendre environ 10 minutes à compléter. Le Conseil RH utilisera les
résultats de cette étude pour élaborer de l'information qui renseignera les employeurs et les individus
sur les possibilités de travailler dans un emploi rémunéré dans le secteur communautaire au
Canada. Ce questionnaire sera éducatif pour ceux qui le complèteront, ce qui aidera aussi le secteur
communautaire canadien et ses 69,000 organismes caritatifs et communautaires. Un lien internet
sera fourni à la fin de l'enquête qui vous proposera des informations complémentaires relatives à
l'emploi dans le secteur communautaire, et vous donnera la possibilité de commander une copie

Nous recherchons des femmes de 60 ans et plus, continentes ou incontinentes à l’effort (lors de la toux, d’éternuements ou d’exercices physiques), pour participer à une étude dans une perspective d’amélioration du traitement de l’incontinence urinaire. En effet, après 60 ans, une femme sur deux souffre d’incontinence urinaire. Souvent sous-estimé, ce problème peut mener à l’isolement ainsi qu’à la perte de confiance en soi et d’autonomie. Il peut aussi augmenter le risque de chutes et la probabilité d’institutionnalisation.
Pourtant, des solutions existent et
nous voudrions en faire bénéficier le plus de femmes possibles!
Notre projet vise à explorer les relations entre l’incontinence, le fonctionnement physique et le fonctionnement du cerveau. Nous voulons aussi développer des outils diagnostiques qui permettraient le dépistage précoce des femmes à risque de devenir incontinentes.
Ce projet consiste une première évaluation d’environ 3 heures. A cette évaluation, s’ajoutent pour les femmes incontinentes, des classes de rééducation des muscles du plancher pelvien (12 séances d’une heure) et une évaluation finale.
Nous vous serions donc très reconnaissants de communiquer aux membres de votre association l’ (les) avis de recrutement(s) ci-joint afin de permettre la participation d’un plus grand nombre de femmes à notre étude, et de leur permettre potentiellement d’améliorer leur qualité de vie.

The Montreal West Operatic Society announces this year’s production of Gilbert and Sullivan's, Princess Ida. The show will be on April 23, 24 and 25 and May 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m., and a May 3rd matinee at 1:30 p.m. We perform at the Parkhaven Theatre (of the former Wagar High School) 5785 in Cote St. Luc (west of the Cavendish Mall). There is ample parking and bus transportation. We hope you will be able to attend.
As this year is our 70th Anniversary, a Gala reception will be held at the April 25thshow for special ticket holders. Celebrants will be invited to sip, nibble and reminisce for an hour before the show.
We are delighted to be invited back to the Haskell Opera House (straddling the border between Standstead, Quebec and Derby Line, Vermont) for their spring season. The road-show is a wonderful way to marry a sojourn in the Townships with a delightful evening at the opera.
As with all Gilbert and Sullivan shows, Princess Ida is a fine blend of lyrical music, witty dialogue, social satire, and old-fashioned romance. Our production has all of that – plus fabulous costumes and sets.
This is Princess Ida’s story: Ida founds a women’s university and teaches that women are superior to men and should rule in their stead. Prince Hilarion, to whom Ida has been betrothed at one, sneaks into the university with two friends. Disguised as women, their lofty aim is to correct and collect Hilarion’s inaccessible intended bride. The exposure of these gallant three ignites a true war between the sexes… and a happy ending?

the idea is for retired teachers to:
1) Disseminate the information to teachers and youth (13-18 yrs) as schools play a vital role in recruitment and program maintenance. In other words, to promote the Student Ambassador training conferences on October 25th and November 8th.
2) We are also looking for adults/teachers who are interested in getting involved in the program to help with maintenance, youth mentorship, recruitment and group facilitation.
